“As a black woman, not only am I bringing my ambition and dedication to the medical field, but I am also bringning my passion and empathy. Being a black woman forces you to view the world from a certain perspective. As someone who is a memner of not only one but two marginalized groups, my intelligence and opinions are consistently undermined. I have been forced to be resilient and persistent in almost every aspect of my life because my voice is always unheard. It is not a secret that even in American healthcare settings, black women have higher maternal mortality rates and their pain is often overlooked.”-Britney

“In the medical field representation is essential. Children are more likely to be comfortable and understood when being treated by a physician who mirrors their background. By becoming a pediatrician, as a woman of color I would not only promote better healthcare outcomes but also serve as a role model for young girls of similar backgrounds that they, too can achieve success in the demanding areas of study.”- Nicole
